Funeral Service for Conrad M. Huckaby, 75, of Copperas Cove, will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 101 W. Avenue F, in Copperas Cove. Burial with full military honors will be at 1:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Conrad was born January 5, 1944 in Vidor, Texas to the late Clarence William and Ann Lois Mabuary Huckaby, and was raised in the Vidor/Beaumont area. Conrad joined the US Army in 1963 and honorably and faithfully served his county for 20 years, retiring as Staff Sergeant in 1985. Before he went to boot camp, he met the love of his life, Joyce Boykin, and they were married July 30, 1966 in Lumberton, Texas. After his military retirement, he worked as a Correctional Officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 12 years, retiring again in 1999.
Conrad was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He loved, and was loved, by everyone and will be dearly missed. Conrad was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing dominoes, traveling when he could, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Conrad is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Huckaby; son, James Huckaby and his wife Anne; daughter, Cheryl Neal and her husband Dustin; sisters, Gayle Welborn and Anne Fulbright; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. The family respectfully request no flowers, however in lieu of, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a favorite charity in his name would be appreciated.
