David Jeremiah Nurse, age 28, died on Wednesday, June 22nd, at 10:03 am in Killeen, Texas, surrounded by his family. While they stood to say goodbye, the carriage of death ushered him into Glory. He was born July 22nd, 1993, at 2:32 pm as the survivor of a triple birth. He was the third child and the firstborn son of David and Elizabeth Nurse. He resided in Kempner, Texas.
David had a love for reading the Bible, rightly dividing it, and was on a constant quest for knowledge and his divine purpose. He loved birds, drawing and writing. He was passionate about body building, martial arts, music, acting and was a creator, producer, and arranger of several short films. As young as he was, he became a music connoisseur, especially of the 70’s era, of which, he wished he had been born. You could often find him among the elders, quizzing them on various musicians of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, proving his knowledge was well beyond his years. He was a mystic with an old soul and “loved more than tongue can tell,” as he would tell his mother. He would stop to help a stranger, feed the hungry and give his last without any strings attached. David attended New Mexico Military Institute for a short time, after coming to the self-realization that he needed an environment that would develop his many artistic abilities. He went on to graduate from Copperas Cove High School and attended Central Texas College for a year. David served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after completing his military commitment.
He embodied living life in the present, often, not knowing where life would take him in the next five minutes. However, he trusted in God, knowing everything would always work out. At 28, he accomplished his life’s work of sharing his passion of bodybuilding, with the world. He participated in the Kuclo Classic in Plano, Texas, and won Second place. He did something very rare in his short time with us; he reached the pinnacle of his life.
Poem written by Elizabeth Nurse and Rene McCall for David J. Nurse
Different shades of blue may arise
As I contemplate on the kindest of souls.
As I try to grasp and understand
Why Abba Father called you home,
I will take a moment every chance I can
To think of and rejoice about your life.
When a loon on the lake
makes his goodnight call,
when I see someone fight for
right, the little things will keep
me going and my love will always
burn bright.
While reckoning that you were on borrowed time,
I realize that faith in God is to know
the unknown and comprehend that
His will is just, and the end for one
Is only the beginning.
I remember the lives you touched,
Grappling with the knowledge
That you were never mine,
you were never ours.
