My life history I was born in Rochester, New York on 18 February 1941 to John and Evelyn Wollek. This is my rags to riches story. In the early years lived in Rochester, New York and moved to the Wolcott, New York area when I was a teenager. The best move I ever made was enlisting in the United States Army in March 1958. My first tour of duty was in Europe as a aircraft technician. I returned to civilian life in March 1961 to work for the Village of Wolcott but returned to the Army in October 1965. I was assigned to Project Flattop aboard the USNS Corpus Christi Bay an Aircraft Maintenance Depot Ship – one of a kind. I served 2 ½ tours in Viet Nam returning to civilian life in July 1974 at Fort Hood, Texas. I worked Civil Service as an Aircraft Technician at Fort Hood until Government downsized in 1979 and I went to work for Augusta International in Yemen until August 1981. Returning to military service with the Texas National Guard in 1979 until my retirement from Civil Service in September 1996 and military retirement in March 2001. I faithfully served the Nation for over 6 decades and am very proud of all my military service 1958 through 2001.
I enjoy bowling, camping, traveling, reading, my grandchildren, and beloved weiner dog Clyde. I was a Director of the Killeen Bowling Association, Coryell Bowling Association, Austin Bowling Association, and the Greater Killeen Fort Hood USBC. A member of the 124th Cavalry Regiment, Disabled Veterans (DAV), American Legion and Life member of the VFW. A member and past secretary of the USS Albermarle/Corpus Christi Bay Association.
I have visited all 50 states, Europe, Viet Nam, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and Yemen. My wife Suzie and I took over 20 cruises to locations such as Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Eastern and Western Caribbean. I was able to do everything on my bucket list, some of these items include swimming with the dolphins, riding with the Iditarod dogs, volcanos in Hawaii, glaciers in Alaska, Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and many more.
I died on the original Memorial Day May 31st to complete my military career and life.
