Dot was born on December 7, 1956. In October 1984, Dot enlisted in the US Army and rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, proudly serving as a Medic. In addition to her deployment and safe return from Desert Shield Desert Storm, Dot also completed tours in Germany, Ft Hood, Texas and Ft Knox, Kentucky where she retired honorably in December 2001. During her military career, SFC Hardy received: Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 Bronze Stars), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Advanced Level), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation Commemorative Certificate.
Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her, and a deep-rooted passion for service. Dot was a member of a handful of organizations, including but not limited to Order of the Golden Circle, Heroine of Jericho, Daughter of Isis, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved volunteering for organizations such as Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful. When not working or volunteering she could be found gardening, growing fresh fruits and vegetables, hiking, traveling within and outside of the nation to volunteer her time (with spiritual family in service) to those who welcomed/needed it, or relaxing with her loved ones at home or at Lake Belton. Dot truly believed in a global community, service to that community, and connecting to others through time well spent. She believed our world could improve if everyone simply dedicated a little bit of his or her time towards the common good.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Ebony Hardy; grandson Ezekiel Forbes, great grandson Oscar Williams; parents Henry Grady Hardy and Cora Lee James; brothers: Joel Hardy, McArthur Hardy, Willie Hardy, Bobby Hardy, Grady Hardy Jr; sisters: Mary Stanley, Rosa Kegler; and spouse Lindon E.
