

Evelyn was born in Winthrop, MA, to Harold and Frances (Callahan) Hersey, on October 14, 1935, the youngest of their ten children. She graduated Winthrop High School in 1954 and married Ambrose J. Keegan on February 1, 1958… her parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. Ambrose proceeded her in death in January 1998.
During her late husband’s military service, she was an active Army Community Service volunteer and a member of the Military Council of Catholic Women. On his retirement at Fort Hood, she returned to the workplace as a secretary at III Corps G3. Upon retiring in 1994, she received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
Her volunteer service continued after her retirement, including the Holy Family Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, Help One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) reading program at Miss Jewell and Fairview Elementary Schools, and the Holy Family Catholic Ladies Society. The family is very appreciative of the members of this group making sure Evelyn had a steady flow of visitors in her last days and wish to thank Martha Thomas, Becky Kirkland and Kellee Cosentino for all their help and companionship. The family would also like to thank John from hospice who took amazing care of Evelyn in the past few weeks.
She also attained Life Master ranking in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
She is survived by daughters, Carla Keegan (Jeff Fuld) of Tucson, AZ; Dawn Dombroski (Mark) of San Benito, TX; and Leslie Allen (David) of Belton, TX; and by grandchildren Casey, Rachel & Joshua Keegan, Jack and Henry Dombroski, and Hayden and Dillon Allen; four great grandchildren, six grand dogs and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Keegan (Debbie who resides in Columbia, SC); brothers Robert, Henry, James, Arthur, Frederick, Donald, and R. Alan Hersey; and by her sisters Jean Oliver and Carolyn Morgan (and their spouses).
Visitation and Rosary will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral home 211 W Ave B · Copperas Cove, TX on Thursday, September 4th from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church 1001 Georgetown Rd, Copperas Cove, TX on Friday, September 5th at 11 am. After the burial (which follows mass) a reception will be held at the social hall at the Church.
