Gretta Demelli, age 74 of New Braunfels, formerly of Kempner, Lampasas County, Texas passed peacefully with her family by her side on November 19, 2019. Gretta was born on February 11th, 1945 to John Goldrick and Gertrude in Killeshandra, County Cavan, Ireland. Her passion was her family first. Christmas was her favorite time of year and because she did so many little thoughtful things for everyone, her family nicknamed her “Elfie”. Gretta’s Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, including her soup, and mincemeat pies were phenomenal! She enjoyed gardening, singing, painting, and music of all genres, including traditional Irish music, 60’s pop rock and the Rolling Stones. When cleaning the house, she enjoyed listening to “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. Gretta was always full of life, fun loving and happy and a positive force that touched everyone that met her. She was a very hard worker, very kind, and will be dearly missed. She is survived by the love of her life who captured her heart over 49 years ago, Dan Demelli; a wonderful son Steven Demelli and wife Shelly of New Braunfels, Texas; and the joys of her heart, her grandchildren Joseph and Angelina Demelli. She is also survived by brothers Mel Goldrick and wife Mona, Tom Goldrick and wife Nuala, John Goldrick and wife Tracey, and sisters Rena Matthews, and Anne Turcotte and husband Gilles; and brother-in-law Ben Walsh and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gertrude Goldrick, her sister Alice Walsh and brother-in-law Seamus Matthews. Visitation will be on Monday, December 2nd, 2019 from 5-8 pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, TX. Mass will be at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove, TX on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 at noon, with interment to follow at the Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery, Killeen, TX. My earliest memory of Gretta is from a family photo outside our home in Balbriggan (see attached photo). We met again over thirty years later at Nana Goldrick’s 80th Birthday. I felt a lovely connection then. However, it wasn’t until Uncle Dan brought Aunty Gretta back home to Ireland last June that I realised just how special that connection was. We had a wonderful family gathering in Uncle Ben’s house along with Tom, Nuala, Rena and Niamh. We heard some fantastic stories of times past and enjoyed great renditions of some old songs that the Goldrick clan loved to sing in the old days. Uncle Tom burst into song while Gretta & Rena danced around the kitchen. What a wonderful, special night full of singing, dancing and lots of laughter. It was a truly Irish gathering and although we didn’t realise it at the time, it was indeed a fond farewell.
I know this is a very difficult time for you all but I’m sure you will look back with very loving memories of your time together. Our deepest sympathies to Dan, Stephen, Shelly, Joseph, Angelina and all the family.

I was very blessed as a hospice volunteer to be invited into Gretta and Dan's lives during this part of their difficult journey. Times spent with her and with Dan were so inspiring just to witness the pure devotion and love they had for each other. I first met Gretta on one of the many outings when Dan had taken her dancing. She was such an inspiration, I desperately wanted to be her hospice visitor and was so grateful when Dan requested a volunteer. Thank you, Dan, for sharing your beautiful Gretta with me. She will be remembered.

GRETTA, my wife was/is a gentle, kind, happy soul, the love of my life and I not only love her but I adore her for everything she is. She bought happiness into my life and we shared that happiness for almost 50 years. You could say that we never reached the mature married state as we never had a fight. We shared everything. We are one, not two separate entities, but one complete whole. There was never a mine or yours situation, it was always ours. I so miss her, though she is still with me, I miss her physical being where I can hold her, touch her, kiss her and caress her hair. My love for her and her love for me has no expiration date, it will go on forever. "Till death do as part" does not apply to us as we are one. I miss her laugh, her loving touch, her humour and her mind. She was an angel among human kind. I love you Gretta Demelli forevermore.

Gretta was such a sweet lady. We spent many hours together and she loved when there was music. I so enjoyed her stories of Ireland and got to meet some of her family members. I know she is singing in Heaven. Rest in peace dear friend.

Love this lady. She was a sweet kind fun loving lady. She was always smiling and happy. The 21 years I knew her she was always happy and smiling and full of life, with some great stories about her homeland of Ireland. She was hard working and loved to work out in her yard. She loved music when it would come on her face would light up. She will be missed by all who's lifes she touched.
