Jack (Andy) passed away peacefully at home with family around him on January 29, 2022 at 7:19 AM by natural causes while battling Alzheimer’s Dementia.
“Andy” as all his friends and family called him was a son, a loving brother to three siblings, two sisters and one brother, a husband of 54 years, father of two daughters, grandfather of six, and great grandfather of six. He was born on April 9, 1944 to Floid G. Andrews and Mary Evelyn Pursley in Woodward, Oklahoma but was raised in Lubbock, Texas. When he turned 18 he joined the Army on December 12, 1962, where he proudly served his country for 20 years.
While in the Army, he traveled to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. Germany is where he met his wife, Renate. They were married at Hindenburg Chapel on February 3, 1968. During his military career, Jack and Renate made lifelong friends with two couples all of whom eventually ended up living in Copperas Cove, TX. Jack was deeply proud to have served his country in the United States of America. Prior to Texas, Jack served his country fighting in the Vietnam War. He was stationed there from December 1970 to December 1971. After the war, in his final years of service in the Army, he was stationed back in Germany and then finally to FT. Hood, Texas Army Base. In 1978, he decided that Copperas Cove would be his family’s final home. Upon his retirement he was a Staff Sergeant and received many medals, ribbons and badges for his duty to The United States Army
For the following fifteen years Jack worked for The City of Copperas Cove Street Department. You would see him all over and in his time off he would be at The Cozy Corner or Little Tex having a meal with his family and friends. If you knew Andy, his love for boating and fishing at Still House Hollow or Belton Lake was no secret. He loved cookouts with friends and family, and of course, the Dallas Cowboys. Let’s not forget Rock and Roll, anything from Buddy Holly (whom he met as a young man), to AC/DC. On special days he would make French toast in the morning, and Pepsi – Neapolitan ice cream floats for dessert. He was a hard worker, strong family man, a Christian, a proud soldier, and Vietnam Veteran. Andy didn’t just simply live; he lived simply, and taught us to always be humble and honest. We are so proud of him and will love him always.
Please feel free to write any stories you would like to share with his family and friends. We will celebrate his life as long as we live through memories, pictures, and stories. Thank you, God Bless!
