

James joined the United States Navy in 1956. During his military career, he served in the Cuban Missile Crisis as a signalman. James retired with the rank of Petty Officer First Class after 20 years of service. After the Navy, James worked as a loader for Estes Trucking Company in North Carolina. In his free time, James enjoyed bowling, working in his yard, as well as pencil drawing.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Chaplin; parents, Lee and Elizabeth Chaplin; and siblings Lee Chaplin and Betty; as well as his beloved son in law, W.T. Housley.
James is survived by his children Tina Housley of Missouri, David (Michelle) Chaplin of Texas, Nancy (Howard) McMasters of Texas, Debbie (Cecil) Sherman of Missouri, and Don (Beverly) Waters of North Carolina along with his 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
