Jamie was born on August 6, 1968, in Irving, Texas, to Gerald and Sandra Heinrich. He later moved to the Texas Panhandle, where he was raised in Lubbock and Spearman. During his final years of high school, he relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he graduated from Las Cruces High School and attended New Mexico State University.
In 1991, Jamie joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country, in what he referred to as his beloved Air Force, as an Air Force Meteorologist for 20 years. His years in service included deployments to the Middle East in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as deployments to Korea and in support of humanitarian service operations. He supported multiple strategic national objectives including Air Force Space Command, Presidential movements to‐and‐from
Crawford Ranch, and finally as the Superintendent of Battlefield Weather Operations, 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing where he developed the Air Force’s battlefield weather job qualification standard. While serving, he received many awards including a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards),
Air Force Commendation Medal (3 awards), and the Robert A. Dodson award. These, along with many other personal and unit awards, reflect Jamie’s commitment and excellence in his Air Force career.
After retirement, he returned to Central Texas. He continued to serve his country and helped train the next generation of weather professionals at Fort Hood Army Post. His beloved dogs, Molly and Tuder, were finally able to enjoy having Dad home without deployments and accompanied him on many of his travels for teaching and training assignments. Together, they made many memories in the RV Jamie enjoyed during his post‐military years.
Jamie’s family treasured having him nearby for the years after his service. He was easily able to attend family events and celebrations while living closer. He was also able to enjoy his hobbies and indulge his love of fun and expensive toys. He purchased his dream car and also had fun fixing up his Chevrolet Chevelle. He took part in shooting competitions, car shows, building models and gaming in his free time.
He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Sandra Heinrich; his sister, Robbie Herring and her husband, Kelly Herring; his niece, Jade Dalichow and her husband, Roman Dalichow; his nephew, Alex Herring and his wife, Katie Herring and their son, Ellis Herring.
He will be missed.
Graveside services will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located at 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542 on June 17, 2026 at 9:00 am.
