Joan Marie Bannister Frost, born in Corning, New York on June 12, 1932, passed away in her home on April 4, 2020 at the age of 87. She had lived in Austin, Texas with her daughter, Jane, for the past 20+ years.
Joan had been called many things in her life including sweet friend, humble, giving, precious, a great lady, beautiful, caring, loving, the minister of hugs, sister in Christ, the candy lady, quick-witted and strong. She was indeed all those and more but she most of all loved being called Mom and Grandma.
Joan was a behind the scenes person, always willing to help but didn’t want to be seen or noticed. She didn’t even like to have her picture taken so we had to sneak them and take the wrath from her when she found out. She loved being around people and missed it later in her years when getting around was just too hard. Even still, people knew that she loved them.
Joan was preceded in death by her son, Tim Frost, who passed in 1987. She is survived by her four remaining children, Tom Frost, JoAnne Gutowski, Ted Frost and Jane Frost, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as her sister, Linda Cornell, who lives in Campbell NY.
The family would like to send out a special thank you to Austin based Heart to Heart Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care for helping to take care of Mom this past year.
There will be no service presently. Joan will be buried at Little Bethel Cemetery in Duncanville with immediate family only. No flowers please. If you would like to give, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Joan’s honor.
The family does intends to have a graveside service later in the year. Crawford-Bowers will update this obituary once that date is determined.
