1SG (Ret.) Joseph MacArthur Bowman

He attended public schools in Saint Mary’s County Maryland where he excelled in basketball and baseball.

He worked in construction for Miller and Long until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1968. Joseph’s overseas tours included Korea, Germany and Vietnam and stateside tours included Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Hood, Texas. His last duty station was Fort Hood, Texas as a Transportation Senior Sergeant where he retired in 1992. During his 24 years of military service, he received numerous medals, awards, and decorations. After retirement, he worked in the private sector for Lockheed Martin as a Welder for 11 years. He was also employed as a Welder by the Department of the Army, Warfighter and the Maintenance Division, as a civilian from October 2003 until his retirement again in January 2016. While employed with Lochkheed Martin and Department of the Army, he often travelled abroad. Joseph really enjoyed working as a Welder to ensure the safety of the equipment used by the military.

Joseph was a member of the Prince Hall Military Lodge.

Joseph was very patriotic. Also known as Mac or Joe, he had many hobbies such as: driving charters/tour buses for churches, schools, military, etc.; traveling; taking pictures; gatherings with family and friends; and grilling. He believed in helping others; loved providing guidance and “directions.” He loved playing racquetball where he won numerous trophies, medals, ribbons, and plaques. His main hobby was being a collector of “STUFF” as well as being a jokester.

A Wake will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove from 12-4 PM. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Comanche Chapel with Pastor David Reynolds officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
