Joseph “Joe” Norman Anthony French, 91 of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away, Monday December 18th at the Hillview Manor Nursing home in Goldthwaite Texas.
Joe was born October 11th, 1926 in New Rochelle, New York to Joseph Harry and Ethel Matilda (Secord) French. Joe was the last surviving of his three siblings. He served in both World War II in the Navy and in the Korean War in the Army. He worked as an auto mechanic. Since his youth he had a love for motorcycles as he always had one throughout his life. His love for aviation drove him to purchase a 1943 Piper Cub J5 and spent the entire winter restoring it to its original glory. As his final retirement place he moved to Texas and met some seasoned aviators who still enjoyed flying. Some of his last joys were flying when one of them called and asked him to go.
Joe lost his eldest daughter Myla in 2012 and is survived by five of his six children; Marlene, Stephen, Theodor, Jo and David. Joe’s legacy continues as he has 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A very special thanks to Brenda Krause who has become a dear member of the family and someone Joe has depended on for so many years. The family has come to trust, respect and depend on her expertise and loving care for Joe. We are very grateful for her supporting and loving friendship during this time.
There will be graveside service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195 on Dec. 29, 2017 at 1pm. A gathering will be held after the service at Shilo Restaurant. 3701 WS Young Dr., Killeen. 254-699-0999. Arrangements are under the care of Crawford-Bowers, Copperas Cove.
