On September 5, 1996, he married his soul mate Katie (Kathryn). Together they have 6 children Michael (Rachael), Arthur (Shalyse), Trevor (Ashley), Dillan, Blake, and John. Among their herd were two adopted children that they loved like their own, Andrew and Kitrina.
Joe always had a sense of Honor, Duty, and Country so the call to serve in US Army was a natural fit. During his 22-year service in the military Joe served in the Gulf War, Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom), and Afghanistan. During his time in service he earned numerous citations and awards. Joe earned the nickname Pappy; Pappy as he was lovingly referred to because he was just so OLD! Although he was critically injured in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 he continued to serve until 2011 when he medically retired as a Staff Sergeant.
Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father, Vicki and Dallas, and his grandparents.
He is survived by Katie, Michael (Rachael), Arthur (Shalyse), Trevor (Ashley), Dillan, Blake, John, Andrew, and Kitrina, grandchildren Eric, Emmet, Jane, Charlotte, and Kevin. His sisters Stacy (Russ), Jennie (Bob), Kris (Duaine), and Jessica (Scott) numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Joe and Katie finally realized their dream of traveling the country exploring new places, visiting family and friends when they purchased their trailer in 2021. While they were only able to travel together for a short amount of time prior to his untimely death, they had started to fulfill their dream.
Joe a devoted husband and father enjoyed his free time playing video games, smoking his favorite meats, hanging out with friends or just catching up on whatever the boob-tube had to offer.
Joe will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him. His untimely death has left a hole in all that knew him as deep as his patriotism ran. He lived and died a hero, at the end giving his life to save that of his beloved Hyatt 6’s life!
