Mr. May died Oct. 23, 2011 at his home in Florence.
Larry Denver May was born August 4, 1952 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Denver and Eva Coulter May. He married Brenda "Kay" Parker on January 10, 1983.
Larry and his family moved to the Killeen area in 1962. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1970, served in the Air Force where he received a medical discharge. He joined the Copperas Cove Fire Dept and served for 29 years, retiring in 2000. He was fire chief in Stephenville, Texas in 1983 for a year. He was an instructor at Texas A & M fire school for 34 years. Larry, his wife, Kay and their children moved back to Cove in December 1983 and lived there until 1996 when they moved to Leander. He also worked diligently to get laws passed for the DNR (No Not Resuscitate). This law was very important to him so that families could allow their loved ones to pass in peace even if they called 911. We can't imagine how many lives he touched through this effort. Larry had his own business, 4 A Septic, from 1998 to 2002. He went to work in 2003 for his nephew Steven Jernigan at Tire Trax driving a dump truck until his illness caused him to stop working in May of 2011. Larry and Kay moved to Florence in 2007 and enjoyed the last few years there. Larry was an avid hunter and has many mounts to show for it. He enjoyed working on his tractor and his 1975 Corvette, a project he and his daughter just recently were trying to restore. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Larry and his family were charter members of the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Kempner, Texas. A cowboy at heart, Larry travelled with Shallon during her reign as Queen. He was proud of both his children, especially of their career choices; Cody for becoming a Fireman and Shallon for becoming a Paramedic.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a nephew Aaron Taylor and great niece Kayla Taylor and father in law, J.T. Parker.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Kay May, a daughter, Shallon Michelle May; a step-son and daughter in law, Cody Shane and Tiffany Ragsdale; grandchildren, Maci and Haley Ragsdale; 2 sisters, Linda Litton and Louella Taylor and her husband FA; brother in law, John Parker III, his wife, Lydia and sister in law, Pam Jernigan, husband Jay; and many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
Memorials may be made to Meme’s House, 1000 Dunman Dr., Georgetown, TX 78628.
