SGM (Retired) Leon Alfred Andrews entered into eternal peace on 9 February 2022. He was born 17 November 1940 to Virginia and James Andrews in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Coatesville School District in 1958.
He joined First Baptist Church of Passtown in Coatesville at an early age and served faithfully until the age of 17 when he graduated high school and enlisted in the Army.
He served 30 years in the Army from 1958 to 1988. During his military service career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (Silver, 4 loops), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 4 Bronze Service Stars), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge (with Palm) (2d Award), Expert Badge (Rifle), Expert Infantry Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
During his accomplished lifetime (and while he was still serving his country) he earned the following post high school degrees: Associate in Science - University of the State of New York - September 1978; Bachelor of Science - University of the State of New York - September 1982; Masters of Arts (Human Relations) - Webster University - October 1984;
Lawyer’s Assistant Program - Southwest Texas State University - August 1990. Obviously, Leon loved the learning process.
One of his favorite pastimes was his love of travel and golfing from the age of 11. Two of his favorite places that he visited were the Pacific Northwest and the South Pacific.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents. He married Sarah Parker 6 October 1990. He is survived by his wife and five daughters: Felecia Andrews, Miriam Andrews, Stephanie Rodriguez (Juan), Nicole McConnel (LTC James), and Tiffany Andrews. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by two stepchildren: Robert Wilson and Robin Wilson-Clipson, his sister Carole Carr (Reggie), and brother Alvester Andrews (Joni). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, one aunt, his nephews, and many friends.
A funeral service for Leon will be held Monday, February 28, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Comanche Chapel, 52024 Tank Destroyer Blvd, Fort Hood, Texas. Following the funeral service will be a burial with military honors at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas.
