Lois Joy Gabaree

Lois Joy Gabaree, age 82, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017. Funeral services will be Friday, September 1st at 10:00 am, at Grace United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, August 31st, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.

Lois was born on February 6,1935, to Otis and Lone Nelson in Edgerton, MO. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1949. Lois married Park Gabaree December 27, 1968, in Miami, OK. Lois spent many years working for TWA in Kansas City. After she and Park moved to Texas, she worked for State Farm Insurance and the National Community Bank. Lois retired in 2000, after many years of dedicated service to families in the community.

Lois was a humble servant of Jesus Christ at Grace United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, and she loved helping with the Fall Festival, Vacation Bible School, bereavement lunches, making quilts, and working bake sales. The generous gift of time and love she shared with others will continue to make an eternal impact in people’s lives.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia Coss, two brothers, J.C. Nelson and Bobby Nelson, and one grandson, Nicholas Gabaree.

Lois is survived by her husband Park, three sons, David Gabaree, Kevin Gabaree and wife Lisa, and Richard Gabaree and partner Stephen Bates. She is also survived by grandchildren, Erin Thomas and husband Jody, Alexa Hursh and husband Mike, and two great-grandsons, Hayes Thomas and Beckett Hursh. Lois is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois was known for her giving, content, and happy heart. Her middle name Joy exemplifies the example of Jesus Christ that she lived out everyday.
