

Lonnie Ray Grover Sr., age 92, of Copperas Cove, Texas peacefully passed from this life into glory on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Lonnie was born to mother Velma Monroe on March 8, 1932 in Palacios, Texas.
As a child, Lonnie attended Van Vleck School and Palacios Colored School. He graduated from Van Vleck High School and furthered his education at Paul Quinn College.
Lonnie joined the United States Army as a young man and served for 22 years. During his time in the Army, Lonnie was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, among other awards. He retired at the rank of Seargeant 1st Class. After his retirement, Lonnie continued his hard work with Cloud Realtors and Neagle Construction. In his free time, Lonnie was very active. He greatly enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, watching westerns, sports (basketball, football, track & field, baseball, & softball), and most of all he loved spending time with family.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruby L. Grover; daughter Sandra M. Mason; mother, Velma Monroe; grandparents, Daniel and Jane Monroe; siblings Jerry Gartica and husband Isaiah, Roy Thompson and wife Donna, Charlene Armstead and husband Jerry, Joe Beth Casey and husband Preston; brother in law, Sylvester Polk; and a son in law, Herbert Bacon.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Ramonia Bacon, Lonnie Grover, Jr., Patricia (Thomas) Chappell, Rhonda (Tracy) Good, and Carl Grover; sister Alice Polk; grandchildren Samuel R. Mason, Jr. (Brenda), Christopher D. Duran (Britanie), Thomas C. Chappell, Jr. (Falen), Ruby N. Sotelo (Matthew), Patrick D. Chappell (Brandi), Lonnie R. Grover, III, Tyler D. Good, Ryan E. Good; and great grandchildren Michael A. Martinez, Samyra N. Martinez, Samuel R. Mason, III (Trey), Miranda Seigler, Madelyn Sotelo, Mattison Sotelo, Mallorie Sotelo, Hayden E. Banik, Donnovin Mathis, Delilah Serna, Casey D. Duran, Thomas C. Chappell, III, Kai I. Chappell, Dontae Chappell, Destiny Chappell, Soleigh Chappell, Mila Baltizar.
Visitation for Retired Sgt. 1st Class Lonnie Ray Grover, Sr., 92, will be held from 6-8 p.m., November 11, 2024, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Copperas Cove, TX. Funeral Services will be 9-10 a.m., November 12, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Harker Heights, TX. Interment will follow at 11 a.m., Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX.
