

Lonnie was born in the Browning Community to Rufus and Opal Walker. He attended school in Copperas Cove where he played 6 man football in high school.
After graduation he attended Durham Business School before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Lonnie began his over 30 year career in civil service at Fort Hood.
Lonnie married Norma Jean Barnes in 1956, and the couple settled in Copperas Cove. They had one daughter, Paula Leah, born in 1969.
He served 6 years on the Copperas Cove City Counsel and was active in the JayCees. He was a member of the Cove school board for over 12 years, serving as President for most of that time. Lonnie was also a member of First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove.
He owned his own topsoil business for over 35 years, and loved the opportunity to visit with his customers and make new friends through his business.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma, his daughter Paula and her husband Jason Stollings, and 2 grandsons, Grant and Zachary Stollings, a brother, Harold Walker and sisters, LaJuan Levi, Ina True, Peggy Perkins, and Merel O’Bryant, as well as several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rufus and Opal Walker, two brothers, Clarence and Russell Walker, and 3 sisters, Mary Catherine Walker, Lynette Lee and Bessie Gore.
Memorials may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove.
Guests may call upon the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Kempner, TX.
