

Luree was born in Metter, Georgia on April 10, 1935, to Ottie B. and Mattie Sessions Olliff. She graduated from Metter High School in 1953. After graduation, Luree moved to Savannah, Georgia and worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She belonged to the telephone union and even walked a picket line when employees went on strike.
While living and working in Savannah, she met and married Eldor Schwausch on April 6, 1957. Shortly after the birth of their first child, the couple moved to Copperas Cove, Texas where they shared 58 years of marriage. She worked outside the home from time to time and was a hardworking homemaker throughout her life. Luree was a devoted wife, loving mother of 5 children, cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren, proud great-grandmother of 7 great-grandchildren and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor and leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, nurturing, kindness and a fierce devotion to her family and friends.
Mrs. Schwausch was a member of the Ladies Aid, Psi Delta Sorority and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed playing bunco, traveling, reading, entertaining and volunteering.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldor E. Schwausch; her parents, Ottie and Mattie Olliff; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Gerald Olliff, Bert Olliff, Willette McDonald and Francine Sellers; father- and mother- in law Ted and Hulda Schwausch; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, 2 nieces and a nephew.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Chavez (husband Fred), sons Stephen Schwausch (wife Julie), Kyle Schwausch (wife Dawn), Kevin Schwausch (wife Angela) and Neal Schwausch (wife Donna); grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers or plants are appropriate; however, donations to any of the following are also welcome: Immanuel Lutheran Church (Copperas Cove), Cancer Society, or Alzheimer’s Association.
A visitation for Luree will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 211 West Ave B, Copperas Cove, TX 76522. The funeral service is Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 922 Lutheran Church Rd, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522. A committal service will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
