Martha was such a fire-ball!  She would plow through anything at work and make everyone glad to be on her team.  We missed her greatly when she left The Woodlands, now we are devistated.  She always made at least 3 copies of everything; a copy of her is left in our hearts.  Our thoughts are with you.

Martha was a bright light...always smiling and bringing joy to the people around her. She was a mentor to everyone in the Infection Prevention and Control "world". She always told me that I needed to eat more, never diet, and that I was beautiful. She loved her children and her grandchildren...she was so proud of them...and spoke of them often. She lived a very active life, and I can only hope that I have the energy that she had. She will be missed.

Martha was one of God’s brightest lights!  The room lit up when Martha walked into a room.  If you didn’t know her before she started talking ,  you would know her afterwards and she would make you feel as if you were part of something special.  She loved to talk and meet new people.  Don’t believe she knew what the word stranger meant to her.  Her family was her first passion but then came church, education and work.  Not sure which meant more to her, education probably. She loved to learn and then pass her knowledge on to others.  Very dedicated, compassionate nurse & person that wanted to help people not only in their body but their souls too.   She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Martha was a very special and unique person. It was my pleasure and honor to have known her and work with her at Scott & White in Round Rock. When ever one would have contact with her, either in her office or other area, she made you feel very special and welcome. She always greeted you with a friendly smile and an intent interest in how you were doing. Frequently, I would leave her office with some of the candy that she alway would keep in abundance. She always made one feel very special. She will be very much missed, but never forgotten.

I will miss Martha greatly. She made each one of us feel as if she truly cared about us as individuals and I was always impressed that she knew everyone by first name - and I do mean everyone! Martha was always such a comforting presence at work and could be counted on to "remind" us that if we did not get our blood draw, immunization, etc., we would not be allowed to work our next shift! :)  SWHC-RR will not be the same without her. My deepest sympathies to Martha's family and friends.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Martha beginning in 2005 in Kingwood, TX. We initially collaborated on initiatives that would minimize the spread of infection and save lives and... At the time of her passing I was able to look back on a cherished friendship of over 5 years with a unique and Godly woman, whom I am certain impacted each and every life she touched. It was an honor and a privilege to know and work with Mrs. Land. 
I knew her and respected her the moment I met her.

She always stopped and engaged with those she was speaking with in a way that made you feel like time was standing still.

She loved the Lord, her family...animals and everyone in the human race. With the exception of a few buttheads who had clearly not learned to love others and accept people with there all of their flaws as she did so beautifully.    

She was a true servant... Dedicated, sacrificial, wise, committed, extremely knowledgeable, educated, learned, well read, authentic, humble, tactful, loving, kind, sincere, encouraging  funny and joyous. All who knew her have met Christ by His light that shone through her spirit.   

She truly lived out her faith which is something so very few can claim.

I am so grateful for God placing Martha in my path and for the many hours I was able to spend with her in making a difference in the lives of folks whom we have never even met. I am equally grateful for the many one on one, heart to heart conversations we shared together about life, love family and God.

Martha's passing is all of our loss. 

Seems like when The Lord calls the REALLY good ones like Martha home, none of us are ready to have them go. 

We can all honor Martha’s life and memory by aspiring to be more like her.

Dear Land Family,
   I knew Martha via the telephone beginning several years ago when I would call her to help her in her quest for infection prevention software. At the time, she was an Infection Control nurse for a Houston-area hospital. Martha and I got to be more than business acquaintances and as friends, I always looked forward to talking with her. Martha was always looking out for others' best interests and was such a caring person. Comments from others confirm that she had not changed.
   To all the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. May God wrap you in his arms during this time. You were privileged to have a very special person as a family member.

Martha was my friend and a kindred spirit. Her committment to everyone and everything she loved was unwavering.  We have lost a sister in both life and nursing.  This world will be a poorer place without her.

At each General Nursing Orientation, every new nurse coming into Scott & White Memorial hears the story of your taking a pet to visit a dying patient.  It is only one example of your focus on the the true human care of others. They hear about you as an example of what it means to truly be a caregiver. Your spirit will live on with all who knew you and will know of you.

Martha, please take care of both our loved ones who are angels with you now and watch over us as you did so well here on earth. I will miss you much, until we meet again.

Martha was not only my co-worker during my time at Scott & White, but also my friend.  She always spoke so lovingly of her family...my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very sad time.  I was always amazed at how much this tiny lady could eat!!  God's speed Martha.

Martha, I came looking for you Wednesday morning as promised (only because I forgot on Monday and Tuesday) to bring you your favorite tamales from San Antonio. I was devastated that morning to hear I would never be seeing you again. Thank you for the great conversations and for always being positive and caring. The Lord has a new angel by his side.

Mrs. Martha Mom Land was truly a treasure! She always brightened my day! She was an angel walking amongst us and will forever hold a special place in my heart! I will miss the times we spent laughing and talking. The stories you told were amazing,the lives you touched were numerous. It is hard to find the words to say what she really meant to us all. She wasn't just a co-worker, she was family, she was Mom. To know her is to love her, you just couldn't help it! I just hoped she knew how much she was loved and cherished! Mr. Al and family, she loved and enjoyed her life with each and everyone of you. She spoke of you daily! Thank you for sharing this wonderful lady with us! My the peace of God surrond you and your family in this  time of tremendous sorrow. For such a tiny lady she left a huge whole. I hope and pray that I can carry on where she left off and I know in my heart that we will all be reunited again! What a celebration there must be up in Heaven! Mom, I can"t believe you are no longer in arms reach. The moment I met you, I fell in love. You adopted me as your "baby".  Then you met my little girl and took her in as your "grandbaby". You told everyone that came through our dept. that we were your kids and showed them Loryn's picture. :0) You listened when I needed to vent, cry, laugh, or "be naughty". (naughty -cracking jokes, sneaking around giving others a hard time).  You loved me with all my flaws and spoke God's word into my life.  You encouraged me to go to school @ my church.  I did and finished it! You were so proud! It made me proud. You took my entire family in as yours. Loryn loves ya! Rhonda misses ya fussing over her! My mother regrets not spending more time in that office with you -exchanging stories. We all do. But I loved each moment we spent together! Mom, I walked by your office and forgot that you were not there. I was gonna tell you about our baby, Loryn's pep rally. It breaks my heart to know I can't hug & kiss ya. Tortilla soup will still be our's! I don"t know how to function properly any more. You had a way of being a "bumper guard". You were straight up about everything! You loved the heck outta your kids and grandbabies! We loved listening to stories, hanging with you, eating with you... it won't ever be the same! There's sooo much to say about you, Mom.  I don"t think we have enough room. :)
Scott & White had an angel that illuminate God's light farther than the eye can see. Now we can look up and smile -knowing you are watching over us! I love you deeply and dearly!
To the Land & Rose family:  May God bless you and heal your heart. may you be comforted through this time!  Please feel free to contact us.  Miss Martha has our numbers in her cell.  Please do not be offended by our calling her Mom.  She's a beautiful soul!  I love you guys!  Mr. Al, we met once with your grandsons. Please come by anytime! You have a beautiful family! What I loved about Martha was she loved to make you smile, it was an honor meeting such a great person like Martha I am going to miss you. To Martha's family sorry for your loss . Always remember your Mom was so special that god need her right next to him

Martha was much more than an empoyee here in our hospital.  She was a mother to us all, a friend and a counselor.  She knew everyone by name and there was never a time when someone couldn't just sit in her office and chat with her about anything.  She was a very hard worker and she truly believed in everything she did.  She was sharp witted with such a sense of humor.  You never saw her without a smile on her face.  I personally, will cherish the time I was able to know her and she will always be remembered.

Miss Martha...I am going to miss you saying "goodmorning" to me as I pass by your office. We are so truly blessed to have been able to know you as a Nurse, and as a Friend.

I only knew Martha a short time, but I am blessed our paths crossed.  She is a respected colleague and dear friend.  It was easy for me to see her dedication and compassion she had for nursng and caring for others.  Martha's enthusiasm and kindness, will truly be missed.

Martha is a truly wonderful person.  Her enthusiasm, passion and smile will be sorely missed.

Martha was a sweet lady who would do anything for anybody.  A very tireless worker, very energetic and caring.  I loved hearing the stories she had to tell.  The funniest one was when she drove the baby goat to Houston with a diaper on!  She'll definitely be missed.

You will always me on my heart. I will always remember you. You were the one friend I could talk to about anything. You brought joy and happiness into my life. When I met you, I knew this was the place to be. You will always be in my memories and boy I have good memories of you. I will miss you.  To the family, I just want to let you know that Martha was a real happy person who love to talk about her family, especially the grandsons, like the one that just got his drivers license. She was so happy when she found out he had pass the test. And she quickly defend him when someone else text her about “people walking on the sidewalk better beware”.  And to Martha’s husband, I remember that day when she came in laughing, talking about how you made her laugh, when you went to bed early and she tried to wake you up because she didn’t believe you were asleep (early). She said you opened one eye and made a silly remark that made her laugh all night. And the next day she was still laughing trying to tell me the story.  My deepest sympathy to all of you. I will always remember her smile and polite comments. She always had candy in her office for staff who she called her kids. I know you were planted im my life's path so that I could experience Christ. I thank God for everyday I knew you.

Martha carried heaven with her.  She was so full of energy and laughter, it was contagious.  Her face was one of the first that people saw as they came on board at the hospital and I've heard many say that her energy and wit were the only things that kept them awake during the long orientation! Martha Land was a Nurses Nurse . She commited her career to serving her patients with expertise and compassion . She dedicated her last years to patient safety and her work in infectious disease has resulted in many saved lives ... few can enjoy that accomplishment.  Martha's energetic work and leadership is a major reason for the successes in patient care at Scott and White Round Rock healthcare facilities.  She was a friend and mentor to so many and will be dearly missed.  Our team was blessed to have Nurse Martha and her life and influences will continue to make this earth a better , kinder place.
