Mary Margaret Anderson

Mary Margaret (Duncan) Anderson, 83, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 15, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home at 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, Texas at 11 am on Thursday July 23, 2026. She is to be buried at the Duncan Family Cemetery, on the Duncan Family Ranch.

Margaret, as she preferred to be called, was a lifelong Texan, even though she spent many years in South Dakota raising a family. Margaret was born on July 27, 1942 in Lampasas, Texas to Doyle and Edna (Nauert) Duncan. She was their first child. Margaret grew up on the family ranch in Copperas Cove, along with her younger brother John Duncan and younger sister Carol Linda Duncan.

Margaret attended school in Copperas Cove and grew up attending Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Margaret was her parents’ daughter: strong, smart and independent. She spent her young years using those traits to help with life on the ranch.

Margaret met the love of her life when she met a young soldier stationed at Ft Hood Army base when she was 16. Gerald Anderson was caught good and proper by Margaret's laugh and her love of life. They were married at the same church she grew up in, Immanuel Lutheran church. Jerry, as he preferred to be called, was a Midwest boy, hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and when his service was done, He and Margaret moved to Sioux falls and began building their family together.

Margaret was always learning and finished college while raising her children and Jerry operated their business, Dakota Turf, in Sioux Falls.

She had three sons, Steven, Brian and Travis, each of which brought such joy and love into her life.

After raising their family in Sioux Falls, Margaret and Jerry retired to the Black Hills on the other side of South Dakota. Within a few years, Margaret and Jerry returned to Texas, and to the Duncan family ranch. They lived just acres away from her brother and sister - the family ranch being a place that called to all of them their whole lives.

Once back, and deciding being retired was too boring, she worked in the Copperas Cove school district as a special education teacher and was very much loved by her students. She and Jerry continued to attend Immanuel Lutheran church and they both spent lots of time with her close and extended family from all of Coryell county and the surrounding area.

Margaret was an amazing and loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. She was kind and caring and was part of a family that was ever supporting each other. She added to that family with 3 wonderful boys of her own.

She was a blessing to all those whose lives were connected to hers, and she will be missed more than can possibly be expressed. Margaret passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Edna Duncan, Her brother John Duncan, Her husband Jerry, and her son Travis Anderson. All of whom are now celebrating their reunion with her in Heaven.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Duncan (John Scott) of Copperas Cove, her son Steven Anderson of Copperas Cove, Sonya Anderson of Sioux Falls, her son Brian (Betty) Anderson, of Belle Fourche South Dakota, 10 grandchildren: Jonathan Anderson, Stephanie Anderson, Jessica Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Sydnee Anderson (Caleb), Thomas Anderson (Rachael), Nicole Anderson, Tony Anderson, Dixie Anderson and Prosper Anderson. She also has 4 unbearably cute great grandchildren: Ethan Anderson, Tillie Anderson, Raven Cohoon-Hillman and Holden Cohoon-Hillman. As well as nieces, grandnieces, grand nephews and many cousins. She will be remembered for a very long time and missed forever.
