Nellie Lee Hall

Nellie Lee Hall, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

Nellie was born on February 10, 1941, in San Saba, Texas, to David A. Sutton and Dora Gertrude (Wolff) Sutton. She graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1959, and shortly afterward, on May 23, 1959, she married the love of her life, Orville L. Hall, who affectionately called her “Butch.” Together, Nellie and Orville shared more than 60 years of hard work, love, laughter and family.

Nellie dedicated much of her working life to serving others. She worked for the school system for many years as the head cook at Halstead Elementary School and also spent a short time as an administrative clerk at Copperas Cove High School. She later became a federal employee at Fort Hood, where she served for many years as an administrative clerk for the Directorate of Public Works.

While Nellie was a hardworking woman, her greatest joys were found at home and with the people she loved. She had a special gift for making a house feel like home, and her kitchen was often at the heart of family gatherings. She loved cooking and baking and took great pride in preparing food for those around her. She also enjoyed canning, preserving the fruits of her labor and creating homemade treasures to share with family and friends. Many will remember not only the food she prepared, but the love that went into every recipe.

Nellie also had a deep love for flowers and plants and that love reflected the same care and nurturing spirit she brought to her family. Whether she was tending her plants, working in the kitchen, or simply spending time with loved ones, Nellie found happiness in the simple, meaningful things that made a home and a family thrive.

Faith was also an important part of Nellie’s life. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a devoted member of the Baptist faith. Nellie and Orville were founding members of Eastside Baptist Church in Copperas Cove. Throughout the years, she and her family were members of First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove, Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church at Buchanan Dam, and Kempner Oak Hills Baptist Church.

Nellie’s greatest legacy is the family she loved so dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hall, and her partner David Gholson; her son Bobby Hall and his wife Lisa; her grandchildren, Amanda Ayers and partner Cody Smith, Justin Hall and wife Samantha, Kasey Hall and wife Heather, Courtney Wilson and Derek Locke; and her great-grandchildren, Sutton Ayers, Emily Smith, Easton Hall, Parker John Hall, Nathan Hall, and Wyatt Hall.

She is also survived by her siblings, David Sutton Jr. and wife Judy; Jimmy Sutton and wife Barbara; Janice Day and husband Vernon; and Mary Kay Sutton, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Orville L. Hall; her parents, David A. Sutton and Dora Gertrude Sutton; her sister Patricia Roy, and brother-in-law William “Bill” Roy II; her brother James Sutton; and her grandson Khyle Hall.

Though she is deeply missed, Nellie’s love lives on in the family she nurtured and in the many memories she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home, 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, TX 76522 on September 8, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 11:00 am to 11:30 am. Burial will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
