Richard E Davis “Dick” was born June 29, 1929 in Akron Ohio, and moved to Galax Virginia at the age of three. He was the only son with three older sisters. At 18, he joined the Army Air Corps and later the US Army, serving his country for over 31 years. He served in Germany, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and several army bases within the United States, but always considered Copperas Cove his home.
His passion was farming and family. He loved working on the farm raising goats and cattle. Many times, in his later years he would go to his land to observe the wildlife and simply "count the cows".
As much as he loved the farm, his family was his proudest accomplishment.
He was married to Nancy Shumate for 63 years. Together they raised 6 wonderful children. After Nancy’s death, Dick was blessed by finding his second soulmate and wife Rosina Hewitt. They had six wonderful years together.
After 92 years, Dick was called home to the Lord on 30 July 2021.
He is survived by his wife Rosina, sister Janet, and sons Ricky, Greg, Shawn, and Chris Davis; stepson Mikey Hewitt; daughters Linda Spears, Lori Knowles, and stepdaughters Julie Osterman, Anita Hewitt, Laura Savage, and Belinda Breen. He has more than fifty grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dick was an amazing man that inspired all that knew him. He was an active member in East Side Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He provided excellent guidance and set the perfect example for all to follow. He lived an amazing life and raised a family anyone would be proud of. He will be greatly missed.
