

Sumie was born on November 1, 1945, in Kokura, Japan. She is the daughter of Earl Mott of Glenmora, Louisiana and Kazuyo (Kay) Manabe of Kokura, Japan. She was a military brat but was solely raised and graduated high school in Glenmora, Louisiana in 1969. She graduated from Delta School of Commerce in Alexandria, Louisiana and worked as a Civil Service employee for over 21 years, where she worked as a Computer Operator. While working in Fort Polk, Louisiana, she met the love of her life, Sualosi (Osovale) Fa’afeu’u Taula’I, from Fiti’uta, Manu’a and both were married on October 16, 1976. Together, they raised a daughter, Esther, and son, Eddie.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunty, and Godmother. She was a very simple woman, who loved to play bingo, go to the casino’s, have lunch or dinner with friends and family. She loved to be around people that made her smile and laugh. Though she is Japanese, she loved to cook and share her Cajun recipes with others. In 1995, her husband received orders to be stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and they decided to settle in Copperas Cove, Texas. Sumie enjoyed attending church and was a member of the Samoan Christian Church in Fort Carson, Colorado and Samoa-i-Texas Congregational Christian Church in Killeen, Texas.
Sumie was preceded in death by her mother, Kay and father, Earl. In 1997, her son, Eddie, gained his angel wings at the age of 16. In 2020, her loving husband of 44 years left to be with the Lord, who she greatly missed among many other family members and friends who greeted her at Heaven’s gate.
Sumie is survived by her brother, Joey Mott and wife, Donna, of Glenmora, Louisiana; daughter, Esther Taula’i-Ve’a and son-in-law, Fanuaee Ve’a of Copperas Cove, Texas; three beautiful grandchildren, Seanoa Taula’I Ve’a, Eddie Taumailelei Ve’a, and Eseta Kazuyo Ve’a of Copperas Cove, Texas; three God-children , Joey Tauanu’u, Saroa Sasa, and Jasmine Lelauti and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation/Viewing will be on Thursday, 3 April 2025 at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove, Texas at 10am. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30am. Burial will be at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
