Tommie Hope Jackson was born on May 8, 1943 in Montgomery Alabama to Jerome and Nellie Gamble Jackson. Tommie joined Beulah Baptist Church and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where he was active in Boy Scouts, Football and Track.
Following graduation, Tommie attended Alabama State University and later joined the United States Army in 1962. Tommie was a member of the Signal Corps. His service to our country was highlighted with three tours of duty during the Vietnam War which resulted in numerous commendations and accolades. Tommie became a resident of Copperas Cove, Texas after his retirement from military service.
While stationed in Japan, Tommie met Helen Marilyn Beason Jett and they married in 1972.
Tommie continued his education with an Associate of Arts Degree from Central Texas College and received certification in HVAC, Electrical and Masonry. Tommie’s enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing and the outdoors lifestyle.
He never met a stranger, was thoughtful and generous.
He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Faith Jackson, Chicago, Illinois and a cousin Tinnie Renee McMurry of Alabaster, Alabama. He also leaves behind three step daughters, Cindy Hettich, of Renton, Washington, Gwenyth Jett of Copperas Cove and Diana Grace Rigg of Woodstock, Illinois, many step-grandchildren and an extended host of family and friends.
Tommie was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marilyn Jackson and a step-son Arthur Jett.
His great loves were family and Booker T. Washington High School. Tommie will be deeply missed.
