Yulan Michalski

Yulan Liang Michalski, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023 just 7 days short of her 91st birthday. She was married to Francis E. Michalski for 65 years. Frank passed away in April 2023.

Yulan, affectionately known as DeeDee to everyone, was born in Taiwan to Hem Li and Buan Liang. She met Frank while he was serving in the United States Army and they were married in 1959. She served as a military spouse for 36 years. She participated with the Rotary Club in Hawaii and served on the NCO wives bowling team in Germany. She worked as grocery bagger at commissary for almost 20 years because she liked the exercise and to be active.

DeeDee was a woman of action and she was always active, especially in her beautiful garden, often winning awards from the City of Copperas Cove. She loved flowers and growing Chinese vegetables. She was a humanitarian in helping others but rarely asked for it. She always put others ahead of herself. DeeDee and Frank were both dog lovers and owned many dogs over the years.

Yulan is survived by her sister Yueh Mei Coffman (Larry) and their children Chiao Davis, Earl Coffman (Kathy) and Bret Coffman. She is also survived by nieces Anna and Emma Coffman, Lynn Cantwell, Terri Linendoll, Christine Ronca, nephew Thomas Pfeiffer, goddaughter Mary Hrasky and cousin Donna Cramer.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving support and care given to Yulan by Stoney Brook and Amedisys Hospice as well as her devoted friends and neighbors, Selina Williams, Alice Dean and Frank and Nellie Somera.

A graveside service for Yulan will be held on Tuesday, October 24 at 1:00 pm in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Yulan’s memory may be made to any of the charities that she supported: Catholic Charities, ASPCA, Native American Heritage Association or Amedisys Hospice.
