Alva “A. Gene” Greene, 86, was born February 11, 1932 in Paden, MS. to the late William Shelby Greene and Connie V. Kennedy Greene. He died February 22, 2018 at Cornerstone Health and Rehab. He was a graduate of Corinth High School, served in the US Army, before receiving a Biology-Chemistry degree from Ole Miss and then a Master’s in Education from MS State University. Gene taught and served in the administration for the Alcorn County School District. He was co-owner with his father of West End Laundry and Dry Cleaning, after retirement he was owner/operator of “A. G’s. Alley Galley” in downtown Corinth for many years. He attended First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed spending time at McDonalds and keeping up with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Ann Greene and his parents.

He is survived by his son, Joby Greene of Memphis, TN.; daughters, Annelle (Rick) Grier, Gena Shields both of Corinth, MS.; grandchildren, Alli (Tyler) Moss of Corinth, MS., Anna Katherine Grier of Tupelo, MS., Davis (Melissa) Grier of Nashville, TN., Jake (Maribeth) Grier of Philadelphia, MS., Jenny (Jackson) Cornelius of Huntsville, AL., Lynley (David) Byers of Nashville, TN., Will Shields of New York City, NY., Caroline Shields of Boston, MA.; great grandchildren, Grier, Greeneley and Lidde Moss, Kate Neal Mayfield, Lilly Grier, Jeb Grier. A Private Family Service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter or Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
