July 12, 1937 – February 20, 2018
Bobbie Jean Box Mattox departed her earthly vessel on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at her home in Corinth, MS. The 4th child born to Ruby Lucille Morgan Box and William Dedrick Box on July 12, 1937. A resident of Alcorn Count, MS her entire life, she attended Union School to the 8th grade at which time she met and fell in love with her future husband, James Harold Mattox who she married on her 15th birthday, July 12, 1952. (He preceded her in death on September 21, 1995). To this blessed union was born their only child, Ramona Arlene Mattox on June 10, 1954.
Ms. Bobbie was a homemaker until she went to work at Wurlitzer Piano Plant in Corinth in 1960 and stayed employed there until company closed doors in 1988. She then went to work at Walmart in Fabric/Domestic department from 1990 until 2000.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
She was a great cook and loved to cook for her family and friends. She took pride in her yard and flowerbeds and mowed her 2 acre yard herself until her health began to fail.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are a brother, Adolph Box (Dorothy) and a sister, Willard Box Phillips (Leonard), and a brother-in-law, Raymond Wilburn and her 4-legged companion of 16 years, Tippey.
Those left to honor her memory are her daughter, Ramona Mattox Mills (Lex), sisters, Gertrude Wilburn of Hernando, MS and Peggy Jane Box of Lebanon, TN. A brother, Jimmy Wayne Box (Brenda) of Greenville, TN. Cousins, Dade (Monk) Stewart of Rienzi, MS, Jabo (Janie) Morgan of Corinth and Gola Spencer of Olive Branch, MS. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018 from 11 am until service time at 3pm at Union Baptist Church below Kossuth, MS. Burial will be in church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, 324 CR 560 Corinth, MS. 38834, St. Jude Children’s Hospital @ stjude.org or a charity of your choice.
Special love and appreciation to her baby sis, Peggy Jane, who was her caregiver during her hospital stays and home recovery. “She loved you so much and was so thankful that you were there for her.” Forever Grateful.
Special thanks to the staff of Kindred Hospice, especially Susanne Mixon, RN. Also to all people who cared for mom during her multiple stays at Magnolia Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Baker, ER physician.
