Charles "Charlie" Honey

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Corinth with visitation Friday, August 28th at 11 am followed by service at 1 pm with Pastors Dennis Smith and Nathan VanHorn officiating.

He was born March 4, 1946, the son of Frank Alton Honey and Ella Belle Kimbrough Honey of Tuscumbia, AL. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Janis Poole Honey, who became his faithful caretaker.

Charles graduated from Deshler High School in 1964. He continued his education at Auburn University, where received a degree in industrial engineering. He began his career with Square D in Birmingham, AL, where he met Charles Stanford of Corinth.

He was working for Square D in West Palm Beach, FL, when Stanford called him to come to Corinth. He retired from Stanford Electric after 37 years.

Having gone through ROTC at Auburn, he entered military service as an Army Second Lieutenant during the Vietnam era. An active member of the Kiwanis, he loved his service as President of the Corinth club and became Lieutenant Governor of the Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee District of Kiwanis.

Until his illness, he was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed attending the John Smiley Sunday School Class. He volunteered with Caring Hearts and later became a participant. Because Janis attended Foote Street Church of Christ, he loved all the people there.

Charles loved to travel whether it be conventions, vacations or Circle of Friends travel group for 16 years. When active, he enjoyed playing golf. For several years, he was a volunteer coach at the YMCA.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years; his sisters, Betty Sanderson of Tuscumbia and Kay Elkins (Allen)Trussville, Al; brother, Ray Honey (Laura) Muscle Shoals, Al; and eight nieces and nephews, Mark, Paul, Julie, Brandon, Tyler, Britney, Quinton, and Colby, who dearly loved their Uncle Charles.

The family appreciates the love and care shown Charlie at StoneRidge. He was lovingly cared for by Dujuanna Frazier and her staff, including physical therapists and Magnolia Hospice.

Honorary pallbearers include Sammy Allred, Rick Stockton, Jimbo Wilkerson, Charles Standford, David Green, John Smillie, Bill Avery, Mike Tryner, Mike Kemp and H.L. Richie.; John Smillie’s Sunday School Class, Circle of Friends, Kiwanis Club.
