

Crystine Young, rebel, poet, animal rights advocate, Unitarian, and Elvis lover, died peacefully surrounded by her 3 children on Sunday, May 25, 2025. According to Crystine's wishes, there will be no memorial service.
Crystine was born March 13, 1945 in Corinth Community Hospital. She graduated from Corinth High School in 1963. She studied literature and philosophy at the University of Mississippi, in the Center for the Study of Southern Culture and in Black Studies, where she participated in the Animal Welfare Group, and at the University of Memphis. Crystine was a founder and president of the Alcorn County Humane Society. She loved Kurt Vonnegut, riding horses, and was a close friend of Corinth poet, Etheridge Knight. All her life she believed in and was dedicated to learning and the dignity of all sentient life.
She is survived by loving children, Ricky Baldwin, Patti Young Pender and Polly Young-Haley; grandchildren, Alex Wardlow, Helyn Wardlow, Sadie Platz, Free Wilburn, Isaac Baldwin Gray, and Samir Baldwin Gray; great grandchildren, Claudia Wardlow and Alden Briggs; and many loving cousins.
