
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Howard Morton; her parents; her sisters, Lucy Paul Burnett Williams (Bill) and Cora Dee Burnett Brawner (Sanford).
She is survived by her children Myrna Paul Morton McNair (Jimmy Lee) of Biggersville, Mary Dee Morton Kemp (Samuel Clark) of Corinth, Beth Ann Morton Mills (James Wesley) of Biggersville, and Howard Michael Morton (Lydia) of Lafayette, Louisiana; eleven grandchildren: Jeffrey Michael McNair (Wanda) of Biggersville, Paul Morton McNair (Lenora) of Biggersville, Jan Kemp Kaplan (David) of Memphis, Tennessee, Jodi Kemp McNeese (Mike) of Madison, Mississippi, Julie Kemp Miller (Duncan) of Memphis, Tennessee, James Wesley Mills (Karen) of New Albany, Myrna Lee Mills Cochran(Steve) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Ashley Johnson Mills (Nicole) of Boston, Massachusetts, Nicholas Howard Mills (Jana) of Henderson, Tennessee, Jessica Ann Arceneaux of Lafayette, Louisiana , and John Daniel Arceneaux (Lisa)of Dallas, Texas; twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Morton was a lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, where she was elected as the first female elder and served in many other capacities. She was an avid basketball fan, gardener, and bird watcher. An accomplished homemaker and seamstress, she sewed many beautiful table linens for her family and her church. She enjoyed her friends of many years at the Magnolia Rehabilitation Center, as well as those she made while working at Holiday Inn in Corinth. Mrs. Morton devoted her life to her family, her friends, and her church.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
A celebration of life will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Biggersville, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 with the Rev. Nicholas Phillips and the Rev. Eldridge Fleming officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time at the church. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
