Frances Cummings Ellenburg

Funeral services for Frances Cummings Ellenburg are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday at McPeters Funeral Home with a private burial to follow in the Valley of the Dogwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Rev. Nelson Hight and Rev. Jared Hight will officiate the services. .
Frances Cummings Ellenburg, a longtime resident of Corinth, died peacefully at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, MS on April 30, 2018. Frances Grace was born in White County, Arkansas on January 19, 1919. She was one of eight children born to Arthur Frank and Lucy Hartley Cummings. Raised in Tishomingo County on Turnpike Mountain, Mrs. Ellenburg graduated from Burnsville High School in 1938. Following her studies at Freed Hardeman College, she taught school in her early years. After her marriage to her beloved husband, Lee, she moved to Houston, Texas where she lived for seven years before moving back to Corinth in 1956.
A proud descendant of French and Scott Irish ancestry, Frances was charming, quick witted and full of life, she shared many memories of growing up during the Depression without electricity or an automobile. Frances had a passion for music, played the piano and sang with her two sisters, Ruby and Laura. Her family enjoyed her old Irish poems and games she learned as a child. One of her favorite poems was “The Old Wild Hog” she learned from her grandfather, Doc Cummings, a well-known veterinarian in Tishomingo County. “Go Away Jack, Come Back Jim” was her super magic trick she played on her grandchildren. Frances Grace loved to perform “Leaning on the “Old Top Rail” and “I can’t Help Falling in Love with You.” Her creative hobbies included charcoal drawings, sewing, and needle point. She has left behind a legacy of love, wisdom and an unwavering faith in God and family. As a member of Church of the Crossroads, she was the oldest graduate of Discover Crossroads.
Mrs. Ellenburg was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Frank and Lucy Hartley Cummings; husband, R.Lee Herman Ellenburg; her siblings: Billy Joel Cummings, Christopher Lum Cummings, Ruby Jewell Curtis, Laura Vee McMeans, Arthur Frank Cummings, Jr., John Daniel Cummings, her grandson Corey Michael Andrew Davis, and son-in-law, Elmer C. Strachan, Jr.
She is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca Strachan of Corinth, Carolyn Davis(Mike) of Cordova, TN; one son, Gregory Ellenburg(Amy) of Savannah, TN; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Rossi(Warren) of Corinth, Elizabeth Davis of Cordova, Colby Sturgis(Mark) of Memphis, Tn, Cora Bryce Ellenburg, Jessica Carvell, Brandon Ellenburg(Taylor,) Clinton Ellenburg, Caleb Ellenburg, Henry Ellenburg, and Jacob Carvell ;thirteen great grandchildren: Elaina Rossi(Rodney,) Paden Rossi, Bergen Heineman, Asher Heineman, Lukas Sturgis, Maedchen Sturgis, Ella Sturgis, , Lily Ellenburg, Penelope Ellenburg, Ellie Carvell, Cayden Carvell, Briar Huskey, and Waylon Huskey, one great great grandson, Able Gracen Johnson, one brother, Barney Cummings of Hodgkins, Illinois, several beloved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Her beloved grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers: Mike Davis and Warren Rossi.
