Celebration of Life Memorial Service for James Keith Mitchell “Jimmy” 68, are set
for 12:00 noon Saturday at First Baptist Church in Corinth, MS. with Rev. Dennis
Smith officiating.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, MS.
Jimmy died May 16, 2018 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born March
2, 1950 in Tupelo, MS. to the late James and Evelyn Mitchell. He was a 1968
graduate of Winona High School and 1972 graduate of Delta State University with
a BS in Education. He began his 40 years of teaching and coaching football in
Winona, MS (3), and over the years moved to Okeechobee, FL (3), Kosciusko, MS.
(3), Tupelo, MS. (11), Pontotoc, MS.(4), Fulton, MS.(2), and Corinth, having
retired after 14 years there. He was a member of MS. Coach Association, coached
in the MS-AL All-Star Game and Mississippi All-Star Game both as an assistant
then as head coach. In 2017 he was inducted in the Northeast MS Coaches Hall of
Fame. He was named Daily Journal Coach of the Year. He attended First Baptist
Church, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their Motor Coach and spending time
with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angelyn Harrison Mitchell; daughter Katie
Mitchell Townsend and her husband David of Parsons, TN.; sisters, Judy M.
Stanford her husband Jerry of Carrollton, MS., Jan M. Davis of Ocean Springs,
MS.; brother, Johnny Mitchell his wife Angela of Tupelo, MS.
Pallbearers, Dennis Kelly, Durwood McCormick, George Weaver, Ricky Black,
Pete McMurry, Chris Coleman, Mike Gunn, James Daniel, Dale Hayes and Ryan
Summers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his former players
Family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to service time at First Baptist
Church.
