James Lee Tyson

James Lee Tyson, 86, died June 29, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Tyson was a 1944 graduate of Alcorn High School, now Kossuth High School, a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army where he received two Bronze Stars. Mr.Tyson was employed with the Alcorn County Coop for 20 years and later with Biggers ACE Hardware for 20 years. He was a life time member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church and had recently been attending God’s Church.

Funeral Services will be Friday, July 1, 2011, at 11:00 am at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. Bill Wages and Rev. David Mills officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 5pm – 8pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Florine Tyson of Corinth; two sons, David Tyson (Rita) of Pontotoc, Ms. And Donas Tyson (Sandra) of Florence, Al.; one daughter, Shirley Lewis (Mike) of Corinth; one sister, Julia Faye Atkins (JP) of Corinth; six grandchildren, Greg Tyson, Rodney Tyson, Lesley Bain, Lana Lewis, Sylvia “Toodles” Moore, and Jennifer Maricle; ten great grandchildren; three step sons, Aaron Steen, Jr. of Corinth, Lorell Steen (Brenda) of Walnut, and Kenny Steen (Sarah) of Memphis; one step daughter, Jackie Blackburn (Jeff) of Memphis; seventeen step grandchildren; and eighteen step great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Newcomb, Dr. Tim Atkins, Jeff Blackburn, Greg Tyson, Jerry Tyson, Billy Wayne Tyson, Phil Atkins, Jackie Atkins, and Bro. Larry Lovett.

Honorary Pallbearers will be R.L. Cook, Roby Clausel, Leroy Miller, Lon Taylor III and employees of Biggers Hardware, and members of the 1944 class of Alcorn High School.

Mr. Tyson is preceded in death by his parents, Guy Young and Blanche Clemons Tyson; the mother of his children, Willie B. Tyson; one daughter, Annette Young, and two brothers, Billy Tyson and Jackie Tyson.

Mr. Tyson’s family request in lieu of floral arrangements, memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
