Martha "Scotti" Leach Clayton was born at her father Troy Elbert Leach’s home in Blue Springs, MS. On January 14, 1934 to her mother Estella Elizabeth Pannell Leach. She attended Blue Springs School then Sherman High School until she married Robert Clayton in November 18, 1950. She earned her GED Diploma later, Robert and Scotti Clayton lived at Rogers Springs, then a rent house on Mott Road in Middleton, TN., near Robert’s job at Tennessee Gas Pipeline Station, he worked at from 1950 until his retirement in 1997. Robert and Scotti moved to North Church Street later named Luna Street at 210 Church/190 Luna till her passing.
Scotti and Robert had four sons, Robert Keith Clayton born 1951, Terry David Clayton born 1952, Richard Tracy Clayton born born 1956 and Robin Clayton born 1960. Scotti worked as a bundle person at McGregor Clothing Factory from 1960 to 1970’s. In 1979 she attended Columbia School of Broadcasting in Memphis, TN., beginning her radio career at WBIP in Booneville under Mr. Piggy Bonds, WCMA Corinth, MS. Under Mr. Johnny Bell. WNAU New Albany under Mr. Russ Wilson, and she came to WLRC as Co-Owner with Robert Clayton on November 18, 1983. She broadcast the Gospel in airshafts that lasted until January 3, 2022 when the pandemic brought her career to an end.
Scotti began a health decline with the death of her husband Robert Clayton, who passed away October 20, 2017 at his home. Arthritis wore her hip out and after hip replacement on May 13, 2024 her decline was rapid. She wished to go her house at 190 Luna Street in Walnut on the corner, she had been member of Harmony Baptist Church since the 1950’s. She was saved at Blue Springs Baptist Church at age of 8 in 1942. She wept her way down the aisle and a group of young men followed her Salvation. She often quoted the Bible verse “I am The Way, The Truth and The Life and No Man Cometh To The Father But By Me”.
Scotti passed peacefully in her sleep Friday July 5, 2024 at 7:00pm in her home at 190 Luna Street in Walnut, MS. In the living room where Robert had died.
She would want you to receive Jesus as Savior.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Clayton; son, Terry David Clayton; Troy Elbert "June" Leach, Joe Leach; sister, Sarah Price.
She is leaves her loving family, Robert Keith Clayton, Richard Tracy Clayton, Robin Clayton; grandchildren, Brandy Nicole Sheilds, Corrie Allison Riggs, Jeramy Scott Clayton, Jay Lee Clayton, Jesse Hunter Clayton, Robert todd Clayton, Michael Paul Clayton; twelve great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
