Michael, since his first day with us at Southaven High, was immediately like family. He was a true friend, team player, a colleague, a mentor to numerous students, and a father figure to others. He was my own child’s friend and biology teacher as well. He was able to reach kids where they were at, at all levels, and impart not only textbook knowledge (so important for “the big test”) but true conversational life skills to help them become contributing members of society beyond the walls of school. His impact will felt for generations and his legacy will live on forever. He was full of fun and life and I’m sure he was welcomed with the biggest smiles at Heaven’s gates. Fly high, my friend, and continue to watch over us all.
Love,
The Thompson family

We have such good memories of Michael. His smile, optimism, and intelligence made him a wonderful person. We are so proud of all he accomplished and the values he stood for. We will miss seeing him at East Mount Zion. May God comfort you.

I graduated from State with Michael and Kelli Jo. I had multiple classes with them. We called ourselves the “Bio Trio”. I sat beside Michael when we graduated in December of 2016. He was an amazing teacher, and I strive to be like him. He was always willing to help and share resources with me that I still use in my classroom this semester. I’m so sorry for your loss. Thinking of y’all during this time.
