CORINTH – Robert L. “Bud” Russell, 84, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Born April 23, 1929, in Corinth, he graduated from Alcorn Agricultural High School in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and served until his honorable discharge in 1974. During his military service, he served his country overseas with one tour of Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among his numerous honors, he was awarded a Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit for his service. After his military career, he worked at Magnolia Regional Health Center as director of security until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Corinth.
Services with military honors are set for 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, at McPeters Funeral Home. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nell Norman Russell; his children, Judy Crabtree of Destrehan, La., and Joe Russell (Kathy) of Jackson; his sisters, Joanne Foropoulos and Lou Bryan of Memphis; his brother, Donald Russell of Paragould, Ark.; his grandchildren, John Crabtree (Regina) and Ashley Crabtree of Destrehan, La.; and his two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Russell and Willie Kemp Russell; a sister, Grace Wicks; and two brothers, Bill Russell and Jim Russell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McPeters Funeral Home.
