

Vadie Valorie Smith Pittman, 89, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Mississippi Care Center of Alcorn County in Corinth after an extended illness. She was born November 6, 1921, to Clarence and Bertha Smith of Iuka into a family of thirteen children with all their names beginning with the initial V. She was a retired seamstress, sharing many homemade quilts with family and friends. She was a member of Farmington Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years in 2004, William Everett Pittman; two sisters, Viola Simmons and Vernie Coffman; and four brothers, Virgil Smith, Virl Smith, Verlon Smith, and Vandel Smith.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 15, 2011, 11:00 am at Farmington Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Nall and Dr. Andy Pittman officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors. Burial will be in the Farmington Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Pittman (Doris) of Tupelo and Don Pittman (Katherine) of Petal; two daughters, Janis Fowler (Jerry) of Corinth and Connie Price (Roger) of Corinth; eight grandchildren, Tina Armstrong (Micheal) of Corinth, Cindy Mills (Barry) of Corinth, Laura Cochran (Noal) of Petal, Sam Pittman of Hattiesburg, Andy Pittman (Shauna) of Texas, John Pittman (Laura Jo) of Mooreville, Brandon Harvell (Nancy) of Corinth, and Michael Harvell (Nikki) of Glen; nineteen great grandchildren, Cody and Cade Armstrong, Justin and Jordan Mills, Valorie Cochran (named after her great grandmother), Katie, Taylor, Maggie, and Lily Pittman, Collin, Nathan and JoEllen Pittman, Lily, and Josephine Pittman, Nathan and Natalie Harvell and Cole, Ryder, and Edi Harvell; two sisters, Verlene Strickland (Junior) of Corinth and Vera Reed (Leroy) of Corinth; four brothers, Vester Smith (Anne) of Texas, Varnell Smith (Sue) of Booneville, Van Smith (Joan) of Corinth, and Vernon Smith (Katherine) of Corinth; four sister in laws, Linda Smith, Letra Smith, Dot Pittman, and Jeanette Pittman Durm all of Corinth; one brother in law, Arnold Pittman (Ruth) of Corinth; and several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Vadie’s grandsons and grandsons in law will serve as pallbearers.
