
Virginia McCarter Galyean passed away August 15, 2016. Born in 1918 in McNairy TN, she was the daughter of Lee Roy and Ruth Birchett McCarter of Corinth. She was preceded in death by her husband James R Galyean JR. in 1993.
While living in Corinth, she worked for the Superintendent of the Corinth City Schools for 18 years. After moving to Memphis, she worked for Dr. Marshal Perritt, Asst. Superintendent for Shelby County Schools for 12 years. Later, she moved to the Memphis City Schools and she retired in 1980.
Mrs. Galyean was a member f the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Corinth Junior Auxiliary. After moving to Memphis, she was a member of the Woodland Presbyterian Church. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the American Contract Bridge League (A.C.B.L.) with a rating of Life Master. In 1996, she moved to Kirby Pines Retirement Community which she enjoyed very much.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. James R. Galyean, III (Brannan), Memphis, TN and Michael LeRoy Galyean (Nancy), Winter Park, FL; grandchildren, Michael Galyean (Wendi), Brunswick, GA, LCDR James R. Galyean IV (Kelly), Memphis, TN, Mary Brannan Galyean Davis (John), Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Brannan and William Davis, Nashville, TN, Matthew and Sarah Galyean, St. Simons, GA, Katie and James R. Galyean V, Memphis, TN; sister, Ruth Ann Cook, Greenville, N.C. and family of her late brother Lee Roy McCarter, JR of Port Arthur, TX.
The Galyean family would like to thank the care givers at the Gallery Manor at Kirby Pines Retirement Community and the Crossroads Hospice, with special thanks to Mary Beth Lazek.
