

Helen Virginia Kemp Jones died on December 30, 2016 at her residence in Corinth. Born the 7th child and 4th daughter of Annie Moore and C.O Kemp Sr. was born in Corinth on April 25, 1924. She was a 1942 graduate of Corinth High School and was the manager of Western Union Telegraph Company in Corinth for 27 ½ years. She was the first woman elected to a full term of office of Justice Court Judge. She served two four-year terms of office from 1972 until 1980. She was selected to appear in “Who’s Who in Mississippi” this Century. She was selected to appear in the 1978-79 edition of Personalities of America. She was the first woman to be elected President of the Mississippi Justice Court Officer’s Association. She was then a self-employed as a Real Estate Broker. She also worked as a Deputy Sheriff with the ACSO for 8 years and worked for the cafeteria staff for the Corinth School District until her retirement. Virginia joined First United Methodist Church on October 4, 1933 and was the longest standing continuous member of First United Methodist Church in Corinth. She was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling with her family. She devoted her entire adult life to her family and to serving the public. She loved people and was always helping others in any way she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C.O. Kemp Sr. and Annie Moore Kemp; husband, Henry Nelson Jones; brothers, C.O. “Charlie” Kemp Jr., Howard Kemp, Walter “Ed” Kemp; sisters, Annie Briggs, Frances Smith, and Dorothy Dobbins.
She is survived by her daughters, Rev. Dr. Virginia Ann Jones Finzel and husband Jay of Bartlett, TN, Suzette Jones Marlar and husband Sam of Corinth and Annette Stringer and husband Chuck of Corinth; brother, Rev. William V. Kemp of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Gosta Turman and husband Chuck of Byhalia, Natasha Powell and husband Brent of Brandon, Layla Carpenter of Brandon, Sydney Blair Bullard and husband Jon of Corinth; great-grandchildren, Jade Grissom and husband Eric, Lindsay Graham, Ryan Crowell, Blake Powell, Mattie Frances Powell, Hayden Kemp Carpenter, Harrison Kane Carpenter, Charlie Blair Bullard, and great-great-grandchildren, Vella Virginia Crowell, Rylan King Grissom, Walker Harville and Zeke Grissom.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Turman, Brent Powell, Blake Powell, Eric Grissom, Ryan Crowell, and Jon Bullard.
