Beloved wife of the late Frank Ernest Hummell. Long-time friend of the late Ray Billard. Daughter of the late John Crites and Ada Fetterly; stepdaughter to the late Bea Crites (Casselman). Loving mother of Dianna Moore (Grant), Sandra Durant (Charles), Catherine Shoalts (Mark), and Frank Hummell (Anne-Marie). Dear sister to Tex and Wylda. Predeceased by her brothers George, Irwin, Hughie, Glen, Gordon, and her sisters Irene and Viola. Dearly missed Nanny of Jason (Jennifer), Michael, Matthew (Amanda), Andrew (Jamie), Adam (Aleksia), Benjamin (Ocean) and Caroline (Dan) and great-nanny to 14 great-grandchildren.
Mom was the embodiment of love, the epitome of amazing perseverance and strength and the heartbeat of our family - a true matriarch whose love will forever shine bright in our memories and hearts. Audrey was born in Aultsville, one of the “lost villages”, and she always had a strong connection to the St. Lawrence River and the communities along it. She lived for many years in Morrisburg where her children grew up. She raised them to believe they could do anything they wanted. Audrey’s meals were famous, and she won awards for her apple pies; and she was active in many organizations. When she later moved to Cornwall, she continued her involvement with her community.
To her 7 grandchildren, Audrey was the "best Nanny ever." She had an unconditional love and unwavering support for all of them, and the grandkids always knew they could count on Nanny to try anything, even the trampoline! Great Nanny was thrilled with the addition of each of her 14 great-grandchildren and loved to hear about everything that they did.
Mom moved to Woodland Villa about a year ago and we are grateful to the wonderful staff there who helped her achieve her goals of continuing to be as active as possible. She participated in the social life and in the physical activities that she could. In particular, we want to thank Jacqueline, Sam, and Jonathan, whom Mom considered friends rather than staff.
In accordance with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place; there will be no public service. A private family service will be held in early autumn.
Mom, Nanny, Great-Nanny: We will always love and cherish you.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Woodland Villa Long Term Care 30 Mille Roches Road Long Sault, Ontario K0C 1P0 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (613-938-1039).
