With great sadness, we share the news that Cathrine Brenda Robitaille has passed away at the age of 68. Despite the circumstances, she kept her sense of humour as she spent the final days of her life surrounded by family and friends at the Cornwall Community Hospital before slipping away in the early morning hours of June 4.
She leaves behind her devoted husband Norman Robitaille, her cherished mother Joan Szalay (nee Burrows) and her beloved sister Suzan Joubert (Michael Joubert).
She was a loving and doting mother to Ashley Grant (Beth Armstrong) and Michael Grant (Katrina Landon) and step mother to Corey Fletcher (Melissa Duperron) and their five children.
She will be missed by her lifelong friend Marlene Madgett (John) as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her treasured father Frank Szalay and her first husband Glen Grant.
Cathy was always full of life and laughter, mischievous like her father. She was a natural caregiver, both at work and at home, regularly serving the needs of others with compassion and tenderness. She especially loved time spent with family and friends, extending her warmth and generosity to those around her. Cathy took great pride in helping to create a proper English garden in her back yard every spring. She enjoyed simple things like puzzles, games, cooking with a glass of wine, and camping. Some of her most treasured memories were of family trips south and time spent with Norman and her mother in Kingston. She loved her children more than anything and would have sacrificed all to spend more time with them. Cathy expressed her gratitude for the devotion of her husband, the unwavering love of her mother and children, the kindness of her sister and brother-in-law, and the affection of friends and family. She will be missed.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. We will be raising our glasses to celebrate her life on June 15 in the Red Room at the Best Western Parkway Inn between 1 pm and 4pm. Photos, stories, and a toast will be shared at 2:30 pm.
Memorial donations to the ALS Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
