Denise Marilyn Paquette 1960-2020

Beloved daughter of Juliette Major and Marcel Paquette (Jeanine Desnoyers). Loving spouse and best friend of Edward Hayes. Sister of Diane Eyolfson (Brian), Paul Paquette (Wayne Smith) and Louise Doe (Ross). Loving aunt of Carly Doe, Kristjan Eyolfson and Shalagh Hayes. Denise will be missed greatly by the extended Major, Paquette and Hayes families. Denise passed away April 22 at St. Joseph Continuing Care Centre in Cornwall, where she had been treated superbly with love and respect since 2012.

A graduate of Fanshawe College in London, Denise was employed from 1983 as a diagnostic imaging technician, first at Ottawa Hospital Civic campus and then for twenty-plus years at Cornwall Community Hospital, and is remembered as a caring and dedicated professional and loyal colleague. Diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia (FLD) in 2008, she retired and her capacities declined over time. However, she continued to maintain her lifelong good humour, much because of the support provided by St. Joseph’s administrative, medical and support staff. The anticipated maximum lifespan after an FLD diagnosis is ten years, and the average is four. Denise survived for twelve happy years, and visited favourite locations in Ottawa and eastern Ontario until almost the very end. Shy, compassionate, funny, artistic, handy and a world champion shopper, Denise leaves behind many friends. Our thanks to everyone who knew Denise for your love and kindness.

Bunny, while you may no longer walk with us, you will live forever in our hearts.

Owing to the current Covid restrictions, a date for Denise’s memorial service has yet to be determined. Notification will be provided when a date is confirmed.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch. (613-932-8482). In Memoriam Donations to St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre or the Alzheimer Society appreciated.

On behalf of Tri-County Literacy Council I wish to share our deepest condolences on the loss of your wife, Denise. For several years we witnessed the tender care you provided as you would bring Denise into the office while out for a walk. Denise always looked so nice and there appeared to be a peacefulness as she held your hand. We will honour Denise by placing her name in several of the resources that are shared among new adult readers and volunteers. Her memory will stay alive through our lending library. Please take care Edward. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. My sisters and I came to know Denise, when we visited our mom at the Villa. Same floor.
Always very shy, but with a little smile. She enjoyed walking with us from time to time and listening to our singing.
I was so happy to have her come along with us.

My condolences to her husband and family. I went to school with Denise at St. Felix-de-Valois. She was a really sweet and nice person. I had the opportunity of bumping into her at the hospital where she worked and we had such a nice talk. Rest in peace my childhood friend.

Dear Ed and All the Family:

It has been quite a journey for you and Denise over many years.

My heartfelt sympathy to you during this extremely challenging time of loss after such a full lifetime together.

Having started out in our careers in Xray together at the Civic... Denise had many friends and colleagues that enjoyed her bubbly personality and the fun we would share together working and socializing in Ottawa in our early years.

She was blessed to have such good care from you and all the many people you brought into both of your lives to help keep her active and engaged.

She was a one of a kind friend that I will miss dearly.

May memories and the support of family and friends bring you comfort as your mourn the loss of your dear spouse.
