BROCKWELL, Glenda – Peacefully at Cornwall Hospice on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Glenda Brockwell (MacRae) of Cornwall; aged 79 years. A high school graduate from Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grace neighbourhood, Glenda was hired as a drafting trainee at Bell Canada at the age of 17. In her late twenties and early thirties, Glenda became one of the most senior women in the engineering department, leading a large team of engineers and drafters in the design of fiber optic infrastructure in Montreal. As a mother, Glenda cherished and nurtured her family with abundant joy and irrepressible energy. At the age of 49, Glenda retired to a small beef farm in Apple Hill after 32 years of devoted service to Bell. After retirement, Glenda was a member of a small team that traveled to Grenada to rebuild the telephone infrastructure that was damaged during the coup and US invasion of 1983. As a farmer, Glenda impressed her neighbours by her devotion to animals, love of hard work and uncompromising passion for the best possible product. The beef Glenda raised was served at Schwartz’s restaurant in Montreal. After hip surgery, Glenda moved with her cats Belle, Annie and Pumpkin to Cornwall where she was blessed with loving and supportive neighbours Brian and Angèle Lalonde and Gerry and Lynn Marion. Beloved wife of the late David Brockwell. Dear mother of Stephen Brockwell. Grandmother of Danica Brockwell. Sister of Donald MacRae (Peggy). Cherished daughter of the late Donald MacRae and the late Doris (Lindsay) MacRae. Fond cousin of the MacRae family historian Jack MacRae. Beloved aunt of Ronalda Leroux (MacRae) and Cory Kyer (MacRae). Predeceased by two brothers Ronald MacRae and Gary MacRae. Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482). In keeping with Glenda’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy Memorial Donations to the Cornwall Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
