Surrounded by love and compassion, John Francis Maloney passed away gently on February 20, 2026, at Cornwall Community Hospital. A gifted musician and beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. John’s life was marked by melody, generosity, and unwavering warmth.
Born in Ireland, John—known fondly to many as Johnny—brought his musical talents across the ocean to Montreal, where he became a sought after pianist and accordionist. Over the years he performed for an extraordinary array of audiences, including princes, prime ministers, ambassadors, and Hollywood entertainers. His music filled reception halls, concert spaces, and hearts.
After retiring to Cornwall, John continued to share his love of music with the community. He took great joy in playing for the residents of Chartwell McConnell Retirement Residence and performing with the Seaway Strings, where his charm and gentle spirit left an enduring impression.
Deeply proud of his Irish heritage, John was an active member of the St. Patrick’s Society and the United Irish Societies of Montreal. In Cornwall, he was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Parish and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 297.
John leaves behind his daughter, The Rev. Janice Brooks (Dr. Bill Brooks), and granddaughters Hannah (Kevin) and Greer (Jason). He is also lovingly remembered by his niece Jackie O’Neill and his dear friend Ann MacMillan.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to nurses Emma and Lou of 6S at Cornwall Community Hospital for their compassion and attentive care.
John’s life was a testament to kindness, humour, and the joy of shared music. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at LAHAIE AND SULLIVAN WEST BRANCH 20 SEVENTH STREET WEST, CORNWALL on Friday, March 6, 2026, between the hours of 2:00PM and 5:00PM.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides would be appreciated by the family.
