

Joe was born in Budapest Hungary to Jozsef Szabo and Terezia Fenyvesi on December 27, 1951..Joe immigrated to Canada May 27, 1957 to Moncton New Brunswick, became a Canadian citizen April 10th 1964. Eventually he moved to Toronto where he spent most of his young life and worked with his father who owned a moving business. Joe joined the Air Force at the age of 18, served in Shilo Manitoba in the Transportation section. His career in the Armed Forces was a short one and Joe returned to Toronto to work with his dad. In 1974 Joe married Nicole Gareau and moved to Cornwall Ontario where he spent the rest of his life. Joe had no children but Nicole and Joe hosted numerous children from around the world and enjoyed their close relationship with nieces and nephews. Joe was involved with the Big Brothers and Sisters, the Optimist Club of Cornwall, the Lions Club of South Stormont, Advocis and the Education Foundation which took him on many travels around the world, His passion was travelling with Nicole and this gave him the opportunity to travel all the corners of the world. They attended graduations, weddings, christenings everywhere. They made good friends around the world until Joe became ill with cancer in 2017 and passed away April 23rd, 2021. Joe will be remembered by many family and friends, he will be missed as his sense of humour, great laugh and kindness to all.

SZABO, Joseph “Joe” Victor, on Friday, April 23, 2021. He was 69. He leaves his loving wife of nearly 47 years Nicole Szabo (Gareau), whom he enjoyed travelling with. Cherished brother of Teresia Mary Rowatt (Stanley) and brother-in-law of André Gareau (Shirley), Johanne Newman (John) and Francine Gareau (late Denis Gareau).
Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Stéphanie, Kristina, Brigitte, Patrick, Joshua, Mélanie, Jeremy, Jordan, Jeffrey and Maxime.
Joe was a proud host father to countless exchange students from all over the world, a Financial Advisor for over 46 years and a past member of the Optimist, Lion and Big Brothers Big Sisters Clubs.
Family and friends will be received at the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall on Tuesday August 10, 2021 from 9am to 11am.Visitation will be controlled and those attending will be required to wear a face mask. A celebration of Joseph's life will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11am. Rite of Committal at Notre Dame Cemetery will follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Cornwall Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
