Michael Petrynka

PETRYNKA, Michael - Passed away peacefully at Parisien Manor Cornwall on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Born in Lvov, Poland on July 15, 1922. Predeceased by his beloved wife Walentyna (Swieboda) (July 31, 1984). Much loved father of Henry (Rosemary), Veronica (John Majewski), Christyna (Gary McDonald) and Paula (Fern Lahaie).

Also survived by grandchildren Paul (Kelly) and Peter (Robin) Majewski, Michael (Lacie), David (Erika Mallette) and Ryan (Racheal Campbell) Petrynka, Jessie (Karl Paschek), Shawn, and Kim (Iain Summers) McDonald, Kayla (Kyle Gagnon-Eveleigh) and Amanda (Spencer McIntosh) Lahaie, Sadie, Ryan, and Leanne (Evan Gaffield) French. He will be sadly missed by great-grandchildren Katra Majewski, Niklas and Ethan Majewski, Alyssa and Mia Petrynka, Kohen, Everly and Audrey Paschek, Khloe, Annabelle and Aubrey Gagnon-Eveleigh, Brad Coté and Danika Shaver, Zachary, Matteo and Isabella Dixon, Jock Summers, and Adley Gaffield.

Michael was a survivor of labour camps in Germany during World War II. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and established a long career as a tailor in Cornwall, ON. He was very proud of becoming a Canadian citizen on May 6, 1958.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the M. JOHN SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall.

Due to the Covid-19 situation a Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately at St. Francis de Sales Church at a later date, followed by Interment St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery.

My sincere sympathy to the family. I spent many hours at the Petrynka home and always felt welcomed. Mr. Petrynka was a very hard worker both at tailoring and he always had a great garden. I will always remember his big smile. Rest In Peace.
