JOHNSTON, Violet Helen – It is with great sadness the family announces her passing on Monday October 15, 2018 with family by her side. She was 96. Born in Upper Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, Helen moved to Ontario in her early years. Helen is predeceased by her husband Gilman and they were both long time residents of South Branch Road in Cornwall, ON.
Together they raised four children; Eunice Eldridge (Bert), Irene Castle (Ted), Ralph Johnston (Shirley) and Norma Crites (Cliff). Helen later worked as a secretary at Superior Propane and then at Knox-St. Paul’s United Church for many years until her retirement. Adored grandmother of Ryan (Leigh), Bradley, Sarah (Dave), Ruth (Justin), Scott (Rachel), Jennifer (Riley), Laura and Stephanie. Cherished great-grandmother of Matthew, Madilyn, Arianna, Ryland, Adam, Joshua, Wyatt and Jack.
Predeceased by her parents Esson and Eva Brown, brothers Ralph and Roy all of Nova Scotia. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at Riverdale Terrace where she resided for 3 ½ years and to the care given to her at the Cornwall Community Hospital. As well, thank you to the friends and relatives who visited with Helen over the years.
Friends and family will be received at the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall on Saturday from 9:30 am till time of Service. Chapel Service will be held Saturday October 20, 2018 at 11:00 am with internment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations (by cheque) to the charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
