Anthony Yamamoto, a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away tragically on March 20, 2026, surfing off San Onofre in Southern California, a place that shaped so much of his life doing something that brought him so much joy.
Born on February 10, 1972, in San Diego, Anthony embodied the spirit of Southern California. He grew up as an integral part of the skateboarding and surfing community in San Diego and both remained defining parts of his life. Anthony found in the ocean both energy and peace—a place of challenge, meditation, and meaningful connection with others who shared his passion.
An artist in every sense, Anthony had an extraordinary eye for fashion, design, music, and atmosphere. He effortlessly brought beauty, taste, and individuality into all that he did, curating every detail of his life. His style was entirely his own: refined and distinctive. He brought that same style to designs he created for well-known brands all over the world.
Anthony was a talented DJ and devoted music lover who possessed an intuitive gift for creating mood and connection from among his extraordinary collection of vinyl. He had a rare ability to bring people together and to make ordinary moments feel memorable, leaving an indelible impression on family and friends alike.
While Anthony was rooted in a deep appreciation for Japanese food and culture, he was a true explorer. He traveled the world in search of places with character, authenticity, and soul.
Anthony will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, kindness, loyalty, and quiet thoughtfulness. And, for seeking beauty and meaning in everyday moments, cultivating deep connections with others – always with generosity, curiosity, and heart.
Anthony was especially devoted to his wife, Jill, whom he adored deeply. Their special connection was a source of joy, strength, and grounding and he never failed to express his gratitude for their profound bond.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Jill (nee Korengold); his parents, Keiichi and Junko; his brother, Henry (Marie); his in-laws, Robyn and Francis Kartner, Michael and Jonalie Korengold; his nieces and nephews, Gainsley Korengold, Ben Korengold and Ryuta Yamamoto; his godson, Sebastian Vasquez; and his extended family. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Hana; he was preceded in death by his beloved Shiba, Kiyo, who held a special place in his heart.
His dear friends – many of them lifelong -- formed a deeply meaningful circle of family around him. The outpouring of love from all of those whom he touched has been overwhelming. He had a profound impact on so many people from all of the different eras in his life.
We will all remember Anthony for his warmth, generosity, creativity, and unmistakable style—for the way he made the world feel more beautiful, more vibrant, and more connected. His absence will be profoundly felt, but his memory will endure in the lives he touched and in the beauty he so freely shared.
