Aram graduated high school in 1977 and attended some technical college until 1981 when along with his mother, father and three brothers they moved to California to start a new chapter of their lives.
Aram was anxious to learn the English language and started attending Los Angeles community college. He soon found a job opportunity and joined the workforce. He was willing to work hard no matter what the job was and did everything from having a lunch truck, owning a gas station, banking and finally settled into the family business with his two brothers Vahan and Armen as a bail agent.
Although Aram took pride in his work; his three passions in life were his sports; especially hockey , music and above all his family.
Aram met Armine Khrimian in 1989 and they were married in April of 1990. In 1994 they were blessed with their first son Sarkis. Sako's birth brought with it many health challenges for the family, but with faith and hope and a miracle Sako's health improved. In 1997 Aram and Armine were doubly blessed with the birth of their twin sons, Varoujan and Grigor. That same year the family moved to Orange County.
Aram enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as family gatherings, laughing and telling jokes with his family and friends, listening to Greek and Armenian music and enjoy a glass of whiskey and a good cigar in his back yard. Reconnecting with old friends also gave him great joy, and educating the twins on hockey strategy.
Along with the good times, life for the Gekchyan family was filled with tremendous loss, especially with the untimely death of his brother Vahan in 1997 and then the loss of his brother Grigor in 2008. Each loss had a deep impact on Aram and the same simple joys such as Greek music, a King's win and family occasions were mixed with happiness and sadness. The two large holes in his heart seemed to have never healed no matter what happiness came. On Friday February 23rd 2018, Aram suddenly left this earth to join his brothers, father and grandparents in heaven.
Aram is survived by his mother Arusyak, his wife Armine, brother Armen, sons Sarkis, Varoujan, Grigor, along with his nieces and nephews and grand niece.
Aram's smile and genuine love for his family and friends will always live in our hearts.
